Co-Create.city was a research white paper transformed into an interactive and interesting digital artwork.

I was very intrigued when I was approached by one of the researchers at SUTD’s Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities. Usually researchers would present their research and findings in the form of a white paper, but this time Julienne wanted to present her findings in the form of a website – something that is fun, interactive, full of colours and exciting.

One of the issues I noticed with the copywriting provided was that it was great as a research paper, which is read page-by-page but would not do very well on a website. One must remember that a website’s pages can be accessed in any order according to the visitor’s wishes, so everything still had to make sense. We rewrote the copywriting, making it less linear and more exploratory – as well as integrated many interactive charts.

This project was built under Hello Pomelo Creatives.

Storytelling

Non-linearly

The challenge of this project was presenting the content in a non-linear fashion. A website, that can be navigated in any way the user wishes – pages that can be clicked and read in any order. How do we translate a research paper into that?

Charts don’t always have to be boring!

I’m always brainstorming and thinking about how we can best display information, and especially information that’s long or dull. We integrated Flourish charts in order to give a fresh breath of life to otherwise boring bars graphs and charts. Plus point, it’s using the brand colours too!
